Drugs worth Rs 18 lakh seized, two held in Palghar

Palghar, Mar 13 (UNI) Two persons have been arrested for allegedly smuggling contraband drug worth Rs 18 lakh in a four-wheeler, District Rural Police on Wednesday.

The police said that based on a tip-off, the sleuths kept a strict vigil near a hotel, in close proximity with the Charoti toll naka on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway on Tuesday.

A car was stopped for security check and the sleuths found 450 gram of contraband drug Mephedrone, said police.

The two occupants of the vehicle--Omar Khan (28) and Vasim Shaikh (37)--were arrested and the banned drug was seized, added police.

Both the accused hail from Mumbai and revealed that the illegal consignment was obtained from other two persons-- Mohsin and Imtiaz.

The Kasa Police Station has booked the duo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and further investigation is underway.
