Srinagar:  Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) chief Farooq Abdullah Saturday said "outsiders" in Jammu & Kashmir should not be given voting rights as it was unacceptable, media reports said.

After an all-party meet at his residence, the former Jammu Kashmir chief minister said, “Leaders from all political parties are in attendance today. We do not want outsiders to get voting rights in Jammu and Kashmir.”

The meeting of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration was called following the remarks by Union Territory’s CEO, Hirdesh Kumar, on the addition of voters to the revised electoral rolls.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, the spokesperson of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration Yousuf Tarigami, Vice President of JKNC Omar Abdullah and others, including Congress, attended the meeting.

“We do not buy assurances given by J&K's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO)," Abdullah said after the meeting, according to media reports.

He said the Centre has done nothing so far to bridge the gap between the region and Delhi. "The Prime Minister had also said that he would reduce ‘Delhi ki doori’ and ‘Dil ki doori’, but nothing has been done so far,” Abdullah commented.

Following Abdullah's remarks, activists of the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal demonstrated against the Gupkar parties outside his house.
