'Don't pay bribes, I will stand with you': Tamil Nadu CM Vijay's bold anti-corruption message

Chennai/IBNS: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has reiterated his government's commitment to fighting corruption, asserting that no one will be allowed to engage in corrupt practices during his tenure, media reports said.

Addressing a public rally in Karur last week, Vijay urged citizens to refuse to pay bribes and assured them of his government's support if they faced harassment.

'Don't pay bribes, I will stand with you'

Speaking at the rally, Vijay said people should firmly reject demands for bribes from government officials.

"When someone asks you for a bribe, tell them directly that you won't give it. I will be with you. Even after that, if someone forces you, tell them, 'Our son, our brother, our Vijay is the one ruling this state.' Tell them very strongly," Vijay was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

He further added: "When you are with me, not a single person involved in corruption, taking bribes or misusing power will be able to continue such acts."

First Karur visit since stampede tragedy

The remarks came during Vijay's first visit to Karur since the tragic stampede at his political rally last year that claimed 41 lives.

The visit carried symbolic significance, with the chief minister returning to the district while reaffirming his government's commitment to clean governance and accountability.
