Moradabad/IBNS: A team of doctors and medical staffers were attacked in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad town when they were visiting the area to escort the primary contacts of a COVID-19 positive patient, who died, to a quarantine facility on Wednesday.

The police team, assisting the medical staffers, were also attacked in the Nawab Pura colony, located in the central part of the city.

The injured persons also include some doctors and cops but no one got major wounds.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered an investigation into the incident. He also ordered the invocation of the stringent National Security Act in such cases, adding that strict action will be taken against the accused under the law.

The CM also assured that any loss of property will be recovered from the accused.

Visuals from the incident site showed that jeeps were left smashed and the road appeared littered with stones and bricks.

Amit Pathak, a senior police officer in Moradabad, told media that a COVID-19 positive patient had died in the area and the doctors were attempting to quarantine those who came in immediate contacts with the victim.

As the family members were boarding the ambulances, a crowd of 150 people gathered and started throwing stones at the medical and police teams.

Pathak assured that strict action would be taken against the culprits of the incident.

According to the Uttar Pradesh government data, Moradabad has 19 coronavirus cases.
