Dipak Mishra sworn in as 45th Chief Justice of India

New Delhi, Aug 28 (IBNS): Justice Dipak Mishra on Monday was sworn in as the 45th Chief Justice of India.

Mishra was administered the oath of office by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The 64-year-old Mishra took over from Justice JS Khehar.

Justice Mishra began his career on February 14, 1977.

In 1996 he was appointed as an addition judge in Orissa High Court and was moved to Madhya Pradesh a year later.

He was appointed the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court in 2009 and headed Delhi High Court in 2010.

On October 10, 2011, Mishra was appointed to the Supreme Court.

Mishra's tenure is expected to last 14 months, during which he is expected to appointed and fill up vacancies in the Supreme Court and High Courts.

As on Monday, the Indian Supreme Court has 26 judges. which will decrease by one when Justice PC Pant retires on Tuesday.
