Despite criticisms, Tharoor to take up 'Clean India' drive

New Delhi, Oct 24 (IBNS): Even after being removed by his party from the post of official spokesperson, former Union Minister and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has taken up Prime Minister Narendra Modi's challenge of spreading the 'Clean India' drive.
Tharoor is all set to clean a beach in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.

"Vizhinjam Beach, a splendid site ruined by filth&garbage, which I will clean w/local residents tomorrow 25/10 at 11am," Tharoor tweeted.

As a part of his Swachh Bharat Mission, the Prime Minister had invited nine eminent personalities including cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, industrialist Anil Ambani, Bollywood actor Salman Khan along with several other actors to spread awareness on his drive.

Tharoor had recently received flak from his own party's Kerala unit for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Clean India campaign under which he was chosen by the PM to take the idea forward with his own contribution.

The Congress party even removed him as the spokesperson.

Earlier he had refuted being pro-Modi in any way and had tweeted: "Being receptive to specific statements or actions of BJP leaders does not remotely imply acceptance of the party's core Hindutva agenda. Such comments ignore my extensive criticisms of BJP government, which are all a matter of record and which far outweigh positive points."

He said he was astonished by the charges that he was pro BJP since he is a strong votary of India's pluralism.

Kerala Congress president V M Sudheeran earlier slammed Tharoor saying that it was Congress which sent him to Parliament and so hence should not go against the party line.
