Demonetisation was PM Modi’s arrogant decision : Gaurav Gogoi

Guwahati, Nov 8 (IBNS): Terming ‘demonetisation’ as an arrogant decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying rich and corrupt people are getting the entire benefit of the note ban policy by converting black money into white under the Prime Minister's own vigilance.

Gaurav Gogoi said the cooperative banks, which are linked to BJP president Amit Shah, got more than Rs 7000 crore in just few days and the saffron outfit's own coffers increased their wealth by more than three times.

So demonetisation was a pre-plan conspiracy of the PM to help the rich and BJP party, Gogoi said.

“But at the end, young people lost out. More than 15 lakh jobs have been lost, 1 percent of GDP decreased, many small industries died,” Gogoi said.

The Assam Congress MP further said the Congress demanded that there should be an inquiry into how the decision was made and how the rich and corrupt had managed to covert black money into white under the PM’s watchful eyes.

“It’s BJP’s arrogates and they are always helping ‘suited-booted’ and wealthy. This government only served the rich and wealthy. They have forgotten poor people. But, India’s poor and middle class will teach BJP in 2019,” the Congress MP said.

On the other hand, Assam Congress president Ripun Bora and several other leaders were arrested by police after leading a protest outside the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) office in Guwahati against the demonetisation move by the BJP-led government on Nov 8, 2016.

Several hundreds of Congress workers staged a protest rally against demonetisation outside of the RBI office in Guwahati on Thursday.

Police arrested the Congress leaders and workers when they tried to break police barricade and march ahead.
