Delhi violence: Tahir Hussain, accused of IB officer's murder, missing
New Delhi/IBNS: Suspended Aam Adami Party (AAP) leader Tahir Hussain, who has been booked for the murder of an Intelligence Bureau (IB) employee in northeast Delhi and also for spreading violence over the new citizenship law last week, is currently missing, media reports said.
The Delhi Police are now making efforts to nab the absconding Delhi councillor.
"He was named as accused... upon recovery of the body of Shri Ankit Sharma. His house was searched and he was found absconding. Efforts are being made to arrest him," the Delhi Police said in a statement late on Tuesday night.
"A section of media has reported that Tahir Hussain (councillor) was rescued by Delhi Police. The facts are that on night intervening 24/25 Feb 2020 when some public men informed police deployed at Chand bagh that Tahir Hussain was trapped as crowd had surrounded his house, the police verified the same to be incorrect and Tahir Hussain was found available in his house," the statement added.
An FIR was registered under section 302 IPC (Murder) at Dayalpur police station and name of Md. Tahir Hussain had been mentioned in the 'Details' section of the FIR.
He was charged with the alleged murder of 26-year-old IB officer Ankit Sharma, whose body was recovered from a drain in Chand Bagh.
According to the allegations by the slain IB officer's father, Sharma was kidnapped and murdered by Tahir Hussain and his followers while he was returning home from office.
Hussain has been also accused of inciting his community's people during the communal violence over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest and leading an attack from his house's rooftop.
The Delhi councillor had, however, denied all allegations against him and claimed his house, as well as the rooftop, were 'hijacked' by rioters.
"I was forced out of my home and my rooftop was taken over by miscreants who pelted stones and petrol bombs," Hussain had told IBNS.
"I wasn't involved in the violence and I had called the police after miscreants entered my house, but, police arrived after several hours," he had added. "All these allegations against me are false."
The AAP also suspended his permanent membership unless his charges are cleared off.
Last week, northeast part of Delhi witnessed indiscriminate violence over the new citizenship law in which a total of 46 deaths were reported, several were injured and a huge number of properties were vandalized.
Starting Feb 23, mobs armed with iron rods, sticks and guns defied police orders and created rampage through the streets of Delhi leading to arson and communal tension.
