Delhi violence: New video shows police were attacked, pelted with stones
New Delhi/IBNS: At a time the Delhi Police are heavily criticised for their role in the violence at the national capital, a new video which has emerged showed how the cops were brutally attacked and beaten by the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) protesters, media reports said.
The video has captured the incident which took place in Chand Bagh area of northeast Delhi.
The cops were pelted stones when they were trying to rescue Amit Sharma, DCP Shahdara, after the latter was attacked.
In the incident, which took place on Feb 24, DCP Sharma got injured and fell unconscious.
At least 47 people including an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer have died and over 300 injured in the violence which initially had started between the protesters and supporters of the CAA but later took a communal turn.

The violence went on for 48 hours between Feb 24 and 25.
The CAA, which came into effect on Jan 10, aims to grant citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi but not Muslim refugees who came to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh due to religious persecution before 2015.
Though the Centre has stated no Indian Muslims need to worry about the new citizenship law, the Opposition accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of hurting the secular fabric of the country.
Though Delhi, a Union Territory, is governed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Delhi Police falls under the Centre.
Md. Tahir Hussain, an expelled AAP councilor from Ward no. 59 (Nehru Vihar) of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), has also been blamed for inciting his community's people during the communal violence over the CAA protest and leading an attack from his house's rooftop.
The AAP councilor, however, denied all allegations against him and claimed his house as well as rooftop were 'hijacked' by rioters.
While a case has been filed against Hussain, the AAP has suspended the councillor from the party.
Acting tough, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal had said, "No rioter should be spared irrespective of his political affiliation. He can belong to BJP or Congress or AAP but must be put to jail."
"If he belongs to the AAP, he must be doubly punished," the Chief Minister had added.
