Delhi: Incessant rains cause traffics snarls, water logging; schools closed

Rains continued to lash Delhi for three consecutive days, leaving major parts of the city water-logged with many places reporting massive traffic snarls.

The Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to plan their journey accordingly.

“As per the IMD report, light to moderate intensity rain would occur over Delhi and adjoining areas. Commuters are advised to plan their journey accordingly,” it said in a tweet.

The traffic helpline said it received 16 calls related to jams, three related to waterlogging and five related to trees falling.

Reports of trees falling came in from Arvindo Marg near Adhchini red light and near Mahipalpur towards Chhattarpur.

Delhi has received 15 mm of rainfall from 8.30 am on Friday to 8.30 am on Saturday.

In Noida and Greater Noida, all government and private schools cancelled classes till standard 8 due to the rains, the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration announced Friday.

In Gurgaon, Waterlogging was reported in many places as intermittent rains lashed the city.

Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority was pressed into action to manage traffic and drain the water from streets.
