Delhi HC directs Chautala to surrender tomorrow

| | Oct 11, 2014, at 04:02 am
New Delhi, Oct 10 (IBNS) The Delhi High Court on Friday directed Indian National Lok Dal supremo Om Prakash Chautala to surrender before the jail authorities on Saturday.

The court has barred Chautala, who had been campaigning for the upcoming Assembly polls in Haryana,  from addressing any public meeting.

The court gave the directions on a plea by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which sought the cancellation of Chautala's interim bail for  flouting bail conditions .
A Delhi court in January last year sentenced Chautala along with his son Ajay to 10 years in jail in the corruption case.

On Jan 16, Om Prakash Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala and 53 others were convicted of recruiting 3,206 junior basic trained teachers between 1999 and 2000 in exchange of money.

The scam is connected to the illegal recruitment of more than 3,000 teachers during Chautala's tenure (1999-2000).
