Delhi Election 2025: BJP’s vote share rises 13 percentage points in past 10 yrs, AAP’s vote share drops
Delhi: BJP’s vote share has risen by nearly 13 percentage points over the past decade, touching 45.56%, while AAP’s vote share has dropped by almost 10 percentage points during the same period, PTI reported.
Percentage points are used when comparing absolute differences between percentages.
On February 8, BJP returned to power in Delhi after 26 years, securing 48 of the 70 Assembly seats and restricting AAP to 22 seats.
In the closely contested election, the difference between the BJP and AAP’s vote shares stood at just 2%.
However, a strong campaign helped the saffron party not only unseat AAP but also defeat several of its prominent leaders, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
AAP’s vote share fell to 43.57%, down from 53.57% in 2020 and 54.5% in 2015.
Despite securing over 40% of the votes, the party lost, a rare occurrence in electoral history.
In the previous two elections, AAP had secured landslide victories, winning 67 seats in 2015 and 62 in 2020.
The BJP, on the other hand, saw a steady increase in its vote share from 32.3% in 2015 to 38.51% in 2020, and now 45.56%.
Meanwhile, Congress failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive election but saw a slight improvement in its vote share, rising from 4.3% in 2020 to 6.34%.
Despite this modest gain, its performance dented AAP’s prospects across multiple constituencies.
