New Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi government on Friday declared November 10 as a public holiday to mark the occasion of Chhath Puja.

Earlier, the government allowed Chhath Puja celebration in the national capital  at pre-decided venues.

"We will not allow the celebration to be conducted at random places," Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had said.

He had also added that the organisers would have to ensure that COVID-19 guidelines are followed properly during the event.

Chhath is an ancient Hindu Vedic festival historically native to the Indian subcontinent, more specifically, the Indian states of Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh and, Jharkhand and the Madhesh region of Nepal. The Chhath Puja is dedicated to the Solar deity (Surya).
