Defend CAA aggressively: PM Modi at NDA leaders' meet

New Delhi/IBNS: Ahead of the Budget Session on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) where he asked them to aggressively defend the Citizenship amendment act (CAA).

The meeting was primarily held to strategise for the budget session.

However, according to media reports, he asked the NDA lawmakers to defend the CAA every time they face claims that the law is discriminatory in nature.

The PM asked them to assure citizens that the government do not discriminate.

Emerging from the meeting PM Modi tweeted: "Had an excellent meeting with the NDA family.  Our alliance represents India’s diversity and dynamism. NDA has made a mark for its pro-people and good governance related development programmes that are empowering millions."

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be presenting the annual budget on Saturday.

The budget session will continue till Apr 3 with a recess between Feb 11 and Mar 2.

Addressing media before the commencement of the budget session, Modi earlier in the day, said the session should be centred mostly on nation's and world's economy.

"The session should be centred on economy and how India can derive benefits from the current situation of world economy. The session should focus in strengthening the country's economy," said the Prime Minister.

Also, he added in saying, "We hope economic issues and how people can be empowered will be discussed in this session."
