Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrives in Assam

Guwahati, Nov 6 (IBNS): Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday visited army's Spear Corps Zone after arriving in Assam. 

On arrival at Chabua Air force station in Assam, Sitharaman was received by Lt General MM Naravane AVSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Command and Lt Gen Gopal R, General Officer Commanding Spear Corps.

The Union Defence Minister thereafter proceeded to Dinjan where she was briefed by General Officer Commanding, Dao Division on the security situation in Upper Assam and operational preparedness along the LAC with China.

She complimented the efforts of the Dao Division in maintaining the sanctity of LAC with China and appreciated the armed forces for their utmost dedication in the line of duty.

At Dinjan, she also interacted with Veer Naris and Ex-servicemen and distributed sweets to them on the occasion of Diwali.

On Nov 7, the Union Defence minister will visit forward posts in Arunachal Pradesh's Dibang Valley and celebrate Diwali with troops along the Line of Actual Control.
