Declare wet drought in Maharashtra, says Uddhav Thackeray

Aurangabad (Maharashtra) , Nov 3 (UNI) Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said Maharashtra should be declared a wet drought state owing to unseasonal rain in its various parts and there is an urgent need to pay Rs 25,000 per hectare to help the affected farmers of the state.

Addressing a press conference here at Subhedari guest house after visiting rain affected villages in the district, he said, "the state government declaring Rs 10,000 crores package for farmers was not sufficient."

"Following heavy rains, farmers incurred heavy losses. Everywhere, there is water logging which has resulted in crops being damaged," he said during his visit.

Talking about crop insurance, Sena president said, "the insurance companies should not press for formalities and help the farmers first.

On issuing notices to the farmers for loan recovery, he said it should be stopped otherwise Sena will deal with banks also.

"Even, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should oversee the situation in the state to help the farmers," he added.
