Death toll reaches 3 in Kolkata building collapse

Kolkata, Sep 5 (IBNS): Death toll raised to 3 as two more persons were killed after an old multi-storey building collapsed at Shibtala Street under Posta Police Station limits in Kolkata's Burrabazar area on Tuesday morning, reports said.

According to reports, the four-storey building, which had been marked as 'hazardous' by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), suddenly collapsed at around 11:30 am. and at least three persons were trapped under the debris.

Local police, fire and emergency services officials and Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel rushed to the scene and after rescuing all three trapped, took them to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where one of them was declared brought dead.

"Three of the same family died in the accident today- one of them was killed on spot and two others, who were seriously injured in the incident, passed away at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital later," a local police official told IBNS.

According to police reports, the deceased have been identified as Taraprasanna Saha (90), his wife Shovarani Saha (70) and their daughter Beuty Roy (52).
