Cyclone Komen to cause heavy rainfall in WB, Odisha during next 72 hours

New Delhi, July 31 (IBNS): Under the influence of depression caused by the tropical Cyclone 'Komen' in West Bengal and its subsequent movement in westerly direction, heavy to very heavy rainfall between 60 mm to 120 mm may take place at few places in the eastern state, Odisha and Jharkhand during the next 72 hours.
The tropical cyclone made a landfall on the Bangladesh coast between Hatia and Sandwip in Bangladesh during on Thursday evening.

The system got weakened and turned to one stage low as “Deep Depression” on Friday.

"The system further moved in Northerly direction and is expected to change the direction towards west-north west between 1200 Hrs IST and 1500 Hrs IST of 31st July," a government statement said.
 
"The system is expected to further weaken in to a “Depression” during 1800 Hrs and 2000 Hrs IST of 31st July. The system as “Depression “  will move further in the west- northwest direction and expected to enter in to West Bengal in the afternoon of 01st August 2015," it added.
 
As per the weather warning advisory issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata, heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated place may occur with squally winds 45-55 km/hrs gusting to 60 km/hr during the next three days in the Gangetic West Bengal.

Meanwhile, media reports said 20 people have lost lives in Gujarat and three have been killed in Odisha after being lashed by heavy rainfalls already.
 
In Jharkhand, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places during Saturday-Sunday.
