Covid victims aid: Karnataka govt announces Rs 1 lakh for BPL families

Bengaluru/UNI: The Karnataka government on Monday announced a compensation amount of Rs 1 lakh to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families that have lost adult members to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Talking to the media, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday said that the families of Covid-19 deceased are suffering. Therefore, the government has decided to provide the money as a relief for such families.

He said that the compensation will be given after one adult member in a BPL family dies of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Stating the financial situation of the state is better, he said the compensation package will cost around Rs 250 to 300 crores.

Some 25,000 BPL families have already had a member succumbed to covid-19, the CM added.
