Controversial preacher Zakir Naik's NGO has crores in real estate investment says NIA

New Delhi, jan 19 (IBNS): The National Investigating Agency (NIA) has said that it is likely to summon controversial preacher Zakir Naik after completion of investigations, according to media reports on Thursday.

NIA said on Thursday that Naik's Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) has nearly rupees hundred crore in real estate investments, media reported.

Naik's 78 bank accounts are also under NIA's scanner.

On November 19 last year, the agency conducted raids at 10 premises of IRF in Mumbai after registering a case against Naik under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and section 153A of Indian Penal Code (IPC), reported the Times of India.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday deferred to Jan 23 the hearing of a plea filed by Naik challenging the government's decision to ban his NGO Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), according to media reports.

In November 2016, the Home Ministry imposed  a five-year ban on IRF under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
