Congress will simplify GST if voted to power: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

| @indiablooms | May 10, 2019, at 03:49 pm

Sidharthnagar/Basti, May 10 (UNI) Congress general secretary (Uttar Pradesh East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday said if her party is voted to power, it will simplify the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Addressing election meetings in Siddharthnagar and Basti ahead of the sixth and pen-ultimate phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, Vadra said, "The present NDA government has done nothing to solve the problems of the traders on the GST and the farmers are also facing severe harassment."

Ms Vadra said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had failed to deliver during the five years and condition of the people of the country deteriorated.

"In five years, 5 crore jobs were destroyed and 24 lakh government posts were not lying vacant. As many as 50 lakh people lost their jobs during demonitisation," she said and announced that after taking over the reins, the vacant government posts will be fulfilled.

On farmers' problem, Vadra said PM Modi refused to meet the farmers of Punjab and others from southern states but he was more interested in meeting the Chinese Premier Xi Jinping.

She further hit out at PM Modi, saying that he has no time to meet the farmers or hear their grievances.

"People are always bigger than any government, but this NDA government had ignored all the problems, Vadra added.

"We are confident that after we come to power, MGNREGA would be strengthened with increasing the days of labour from 100 to 150 days and labourers would get the wages regularly," she said.

"They have announced Rs 6,000 per year to the farmers under Kisan Samman scheme even after promising Rs 15 lakhs during the 2014 elections. But this Kisan Samman was an insult to the farmers, as a family of five would get just Rs 2 per day, which will not make any difference to the poor family," she said while comparing it with the Congress-announced Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY) scheme which will give Rs 72,000 per year to the poor family.

She also promised that if party assumes power, then farmers will get a separate budget while no one would be jailed for not paying their loans.

Vadra is also scheduled to address rallies at Sant Kabir Nagar and Bhadoi too on Friday. The polling in all the four constituencies would be held on May 12.
