Congress to go alone in Arunachal Assembly polls

Itanagar, Mar 17 (UNI) Congress in Arunachal Pradesh will fight the forthcoming Assembly elections alone.

It may be mentioned that for the two Lok Sabha seats, party has fielded former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki for Arunachal west Parliamentary seat and JW Wanglet for Arunachal East.

The State will go for simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha polls on April 11.

"Congress will go solo in the forthcoming Assembly elections. There will be no pre-poll alliance. We have already 60 people put on place to take on the BJP," Arunachal Pradesh Congress unit president Takam Sanjoy told UNI here on Sunday.

He said that the party's state unit has already finalised the names of 50 candidates out of 60 Assembly seats, and sent it to the central election committee of the Congress.

"We have already finalised 50 names in the first batch, and sent it to the the central election committee of the party. The names are likely to be announced after Congress president Rahul Gandhi's visit," Sanjoy said.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Itanagar on March 19, and kick-off party's campaign. He will address a rally at Indira Gandhi (IG) park here besides holding meeting with party workers.

Sanjoy, however, said that their might be a tacit understanding with like minded parties in one or two Assembly seats.

"In one or two Assembly seats , we might have a tacit understanding at the end. As of now, we are ready to go to solo and confident of forming the next Government in Arunachal Pradesh," he said.

Asked about pre-poll alliance with People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) and Janata Dal (Secular), Sanjoy said," We are a Central party. We have thrown open proposals to these parties. PPA had internal problems. Pre-poll alliance with JD (S) most probably is not likely . "

He also exuded confidence that Congress will win both the Parliamentary seats.
