New Delhi/UNI: The Congress has appointed S Supongmeren Jamir as the new president of the party's state unit of Nagaland.

According to a communique issued by Congress general secretary in-charge of Organisation KC Venugopal on Friday late night, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Jamir as the president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee.

The development came hours after Kewekhape Therie resigned as the party president of Nagaland.

"Congress President has appointed S Supongmeren Jamir as the president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, following the acceptance of the resignation of Kewekhape Therie, with immediate effect," the statement said.

The Congress also lauded the contributions of Therie.

The Congress drew a blank in the recently concluded Nagaland Assembly polls.
