Cong MP Adhir Chowdhury evicted from govt banglow in New Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 2 (IBNS): A team of Delhi Police and officials from the Directorate of Estates- under the Ministry of Urban Development- on Tuesday reportedly tried to evict former Union Minister of State for Railways and Congress Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from a government bungalow, which was allotted for him when Chowdhury was a minister.

According to reports, the joint-team of Delhi Police and Directorate of Estates on Tuesday morning went to the government bungalow, which has been occupied by Adhir Chowdhury for past few years, in New Delhi's government built luxury residential colony New Moti Bagh area.

The team reportedly vacated all commodities and furniture of the Congress lawmaker from the Bungalow. The joint-team also disconnected power and water supplies to the bungalow.

However, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury told IBNS, "When I became a minister of state, this bungalow was allotted to me. After my ministry was gone in 2014, newly formed government re-allotted this bungalow to me and I used to pay rent for this. Then I thought this bungalow had been regularized for me. In January last year, I was allotted another flat which had already been occupied by an officer."

"However, another accommodation at Humayun Shah Road area has been allotted to me which is uninhabitable, urgent repairing is needed there. I have already informed Lok Sabha House committee chairman Arjun Ram Meghwal and sought for 10-12 days for repairing works. But without giving me time, my goods have suddenly been thrown out from this bungalow today," he further said.

Meanwhile, Congress lawmaker has already appealed to the Delhi High Court to put a hold on this eviction. The High Court ordered a stay on this on Tuesday.

Thereafter, the joint-team left the bungalow and Chowdhury's commodities are still outside the house.

"I am leaving all my goods, which have been thrown out, in their custody and they will be responsible, if anything is lost or stolen," Chowdhury told IBNS while getting out from the bungalow.
