Coldest night of season in Delhi as AQI turns 'very poor' ahead of Diwali
New Delhi/UNI: The air in the National Capital Region will remain in the “poor category” on Tuesday and further deteriorate over the next two days with Diwali coming up on Thursday, the IMD said as it also recorded the coldest night of the season here.
The mercury dropped to 13.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below the normal. “The sky will remain partly cloudy with the minimum and maximum temperature likely to hover around 15 and 30 degrees Celsius respectively during the day,” the India Meteorological Department said.
With AQI at 314 on Tuesday, the IMD said the air quality over Delhi-NCR is likely to remain in the lower end of very poor to poor category on Wednesday and Thursday as well. The AQI is likely to deteriorate even further Friday and Saturday and remain in the "very poor category”.
“The contribution of biomass burning in PM2.5 concentration is likely to be less than 5 per cent on Tuesday and Wednesday as the wind is not favourable for transportation of pollutants,” it said.
“The crops residue burning fire points increased significantly in Punjab to 1,796; Haryana 124 and UP 157 on Monday,” it said.
According to SAFAR, agricultural residue burning emissions accounted for around 7 per cent of PM2.5 emissions on Tuesday.
