Nevada, Apr 26 (IBNS) Asia Society Texas Center in Houston is depicting Hindu gods and goddesses in an exhibition entitled “Transcendent Deities of India”, from May two to September 14.

It includes nearly 60 images; including Vishnu, Sarasvati, Laxmi and Shiva; in drawings, digital works, photographs and modern chromolithographs; which will be on view in the Louisa Stude Sarofim Gallery; and is funded in part by a grant from the City of Houston.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) on Saturday, commended the City of Houston for partly funding this exhibition through Houston Arts Alliance.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, urged cities of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas, San Jose and Austin to also support Hindu art focused exhibitions; thus sharing the rich Hindu art heritage with their populations. Art had a long and rich tradition in Hinduism and ancient Sanskrit literature talked about religious paintings of deities on wood or cloth, Zed added.

Asia Society Texas Center, established in 1979, “works to promote mutual understanding and strengthen partnerships among people, leaders and institutions”. Bonna Kol, Charles C. Foster and Alan R. Crain are Executive Director, Board of Directors Chair and Corporate Advisory Board Chair respectively.

Annise D. Parker and Ronald C. Green are Mayor and Controller respectively of Houston, fourth largest city in USA, also known as “Space City”.

Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal. There are about three million Hindus in USA.
