China built village in disputed region of Arunachal Pradesh : Report

New Delhi/IBNS: Exclusive satellite images have shown China has built a new village comprising 101 homes in the disputed area of Arunachal Pradesh,  approximately 4.5 km within the Indian territory of the de facto border, reported NDTV.

India has responded to this saying "it monitors all developments affecting national security and acts to safeguard territorial integrity", said an NDTV report.

The external affairs ministry said that the government has accelerated the construction of border infrastructure, including roads and bridges, in response to the Chinese construction in border areas.

The media reports stated that the said village is located on the banks of Tsari Chu river in Upper Subansiri district, an area along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). It is also the same place where five people from Arunachal Pradesh were detained by the Chinese army last September, the report added.

NDTV's report is based on a comparison between images taken on August 26, 2019 and November 1, 2020, provided by satellite images provided by Planet Labs, a private US-based imaging company.

The constructions were done over a period of 15 months, a comparison of the images show.

While the first image did not show any construction activity, the second image showed several rows of structures, big and small, and roads had come up.

The ministry said in a statement that India had “seen recent reports on China undertaking construction work along the border areas”, the NDTV report stated.

It added, “China has undertaken such infrastructure construction activity in the past several years. In response, our government too has stepped up border infrastructure including the construction of roads, bridges etc, which has provided much needed connectivity to the local population along the border.”

The NDTV report said BJP MP from Arunachal Pradesh, Tapir Gao, told it on Monday: ''Construction is still going on. China has entered more than 60-70 kms inside the upper Subansiri district if you follow the path along the river. They are constructing a road along the river known locally as the Lensi as it flows in the direction of the Subansiri river.''

Gao had also warned the Lok Sabha of the Chinese incursion back in November 2020 when the images were taken.

The HT report, citing people familiar with the developments, stated that Upper Subansiri region has been fluid for decades while confirming the existence of the village.
