Chhattisgarh: Three DRG jawans injured in IED blast in Sukma

Raipur, Sept 1 (IBNS): At least three jawans of Chhattisgarh District Reserve Guard (DRG) were injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion detonated allegedly by the Maoists near Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected Kerlapal area in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

According to senior police officials, targeting the personnel of Chhattisgarh's special anti-Naxal police force- DRG, Maoists detonated an IED at Rabdipara village under Phulbagdi Police Station limits in Sukma at around 12:30 pm.

"Three DRG jawans, who were engaged in anti-Naxal operation were injured in an IED explosion triggered by Naxals in Sukma's Rabdipara area, nearly 500 km. from state capital Raipur," IG of Bastar range, Vivekanand Sinha, told IBNS.

"Following the incident, a reinforcement was deployed to the scene and after being rescued, the injured security personnel were rushed to a hospital in Sukma town," Sinha added.

Meanwhile, till the last update came in, a heavy police force has cordoned off the area and currently a search operation is underway at the insurgency-hit zone of Sukma, according to officials.
