Chennai: Police have arrested a couple and four others in connection with the suspected torture and murder of a 15-year-old maid in Chennai, media reports said.

Investigators said that the young girl was severely tortured with a hot iron and cigarette butts in a flat located in Chennai's Mehta Nagar, where she worked as a domestic help, according to an NDTV report.

The couple, identified as Mohammad Nishad and Nasiya, allegedly hid the girl’s body in their toilet before fleeing to the home of Nishad's sister.

Reports indicate that Nishad's lawyer informed the police about the death.

The victim’s mother is a widow and lives in Thanjavur district.

Police are currently waiting for the postmortem report from Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital to determine the precise cause of the girl's death, the report added.
