New Delhi/IBNS: A massive chaos broke out in parliament's lower house Lok Sabha after the Opposition demanded a discussion on the Maha Kumbh stampede that killed at least 30 people, media reports said.

The opposition MPs demanded an immediate discussion leading to a ruckus in the Lok Sabha.

"Tanashahi (dictatorship) nahi chalegi," said Opposition MPs protesting against the treasury bench.

Countering the protest, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla told the MPs that they were not elected to "break tables" or "raise slogans" in parliament.

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the plea seeking action against Uttar Pradesh government officials over the stampede.

The top court, which called the stampede "unfortunate", has asked the petitioner to approach the Allahabad High Court.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjeev Khanna said as quoted by India Today, "It is an unfortunate incident and a matter of concern, but approach the High Court. A judicial commission has already been constituted."

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who represented the state in the top court, said a judicial probe into the stampede is underway.

A three-member panel led by retired judge Harsh Kumar is conducting a judicial probe into the incident that has brought the Yogi Adityanath administration under the scanner.
