Chaos in LAX Airport over shooting rumour

Los Angeles, Aug 29 (IBNS): A shooting rumour triggered panic in Los Angeles Airport (LAX) on Sunday night, as passengers ran for safety, reports said.

Though an active shooter was reported by some passengers, who shared on twitter that they heard gun fires, it was dismissed as a rumour by police.

A tweet from the airport authorities quoting LA Airport Police Department also dismissed any report of shooting.

Andrea Sper images: twitter.com/Andreafsper"@LAAirportPD confirming no shooting or shots fired at LAX. They cleared T2 & repopulating passengers that self-evacuated. Ground stop lifted," LAX Airport tweeted.

"Police searching LAX after reports. All precautions being taken to ensure safety of public. Remain calm. Thank you for your cooperation," an earlier tweet from the airport authorities read.

"Reports of active shooter at LAX unconfirmed. Police investigating," a post by LA Airport PD read before they concluded the investigation.

Earlier, passengers tweeted pictures and clips of the chaos that ensured after the report spread like wildfire.

Tweeting a picture, Cody Wendt, a passenger had posted, "Passengers evacuated onto the ramp at LAX."

However, Wendt later clarified that it was a 'false alarm'.

"Looks like a false alarm. They're rounding up the passengers into busses now for rescreening. Flights look to be resuming," he tweeted.

Sam Macon, another passenger, had tweeted that a person in a Zorro costume with a plastic sword was arrested before the chaos started.

"Before things got really crazy - a man in a Zorro costume with a plastic sword was arrested," tweeted Macon, along with a short clip that shows police nabbing the impostor.

"So this is what happens when someone screams "SHOOTER" at #LAX - panic and abandoned everything ," tweeted Andrea Sper.
