Kolkata, Oct 11 (IBNS): With the Durga Puja celebrations barely a week away, Chalta Bagan Lohapatty Durga Puja Committee, in association with Kutchina, geared up for a Dhak Mahotsav at a five star hotel here on Sunday.

The event was inaugurated by West Bengal Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi in the presence of eminent dignitaries from the world of art, culture, education, sports, politics and industry. Actor and MP Dev was the Chief Guest of the event.

Speaking about Durga Puja festival, the Governor said, "It is that time of the year again when people in Bengal will soak in the spirit of Durga Puja festivities. The festival signifies all that's good in the world and in the society".

Chaltabagan Puja Committee besides organizing Pujas, also carries out various social welfare activities. In this momentous occasion, a cheque was handed over to the Governor by Namit Bajoria, Director of Kutchina for the Governor's Welfare Fund.

About his association with the Chaltabagan Lohapatty Puja, Namit Bajoria commented,"We have associated with Chaltabagan not only because it one of the best Pujas in the city but also because it is engaged in several social welfare activities. I feel pujas, apart from festivities and entertainment, is also a right time to give something back to the society".

The theme of Chaltabagan Durga Puja this year is a synthesis of tradition and modernity which reflects an environment-friendly message of sustainable development. Artist Sutanu Maity and his team have given shape to the idea with the use of bio-degradable materials like coconut shells.

Talking about the theme, Sundeep Bhutoria, Chairman of Chaltabagan Lohapatty Puja Committee, said," The use of environment-friendly coconuts is in keeping with the spirit of the new UN agenda of sustainable development goals. This year, the artisans of Digha and Contai would, through their art work, demonstrate how the coconut shells can be used as spectacular art work to decorate the pandal".

Chaltabagan Durga Puja has been a forerunner for innovation with socially-relevant themes like solar lighting, use of re-cycled waste, sustainable development etc.
