New Delhi, Aug 3 (IBNS): The central government has given its consent to the elevation of Justice KM Joseph to the Supreme Court of India, media reports said.

Earlier, the Centre had urged the Supreme Court collegium or a group of five senior judges to reconsider the appointment of Justice Joseph, who was the Uttarakhand Chief Justice.

Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, had said the government was well within its jurisdiction to do so.

However, appointment of Indu Malhotra, the second name recommended by the top judges, was cleared.
