Chennai, Feb 25 (IBNS): The Central government has given permission to Tamil Nadu for increasing the number of workdays under MGNREGA from the existing 100 days to 150 days, according to media reports on Saturday.

Through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), employment is provided to rural household workers.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palanisami had requested the Centre for increasing the number of days of employment under the scheme in view of the drought situation in the state, media reported

A state government release said that the extension of days is expected to benefit 1,23 crore workers in the rural areas.
