CBI summons former J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik for questioning in Rs 300 cr bribery case

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik for an inquiry related to his statement that he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to approve two files during his tenure in J&K between August 23, 2018, and October 30, 2019.

Satya Pal Malik has been summoned by the CBI to get clarification on certain things about the case, India Today reported.

“They have verbally asked me to come on 27th or 28th April as per my comfort,” he said while speaking to India Today.

In an interview with news website The Wire, he alleged that security lapses were responsible for the Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF personnel.

He claimed that the CRPF had requested an aircraft for transportation, but the government denied the request, forcing the soldiers to travel by road instead.

"I have exposed the sins of some people by speaking the truth. Maybe that's why the call has come. I am the son of a farmer; I will not panic. I stand by the truth," he also tweeted soon after he received the CBI summons.

The CBI has requested to speak to Satya Pal Malik as a witness in a case involving the cancellation of a contract by an insurance company owned by Anil Ambani in 2018.

The CBI has filed a First Information Report (FIR) in the alleged scam regarding a medical insurance scheme for Jammu and Kashmir government employees and their families, naming Reliance General Insurance and Trinity Reinsurance Brokers as accused.

The scheme, which covered around 3.5 lakh employees, was launched in September 2018 but was cancelled by Malik within a month.

He said that the state government employees had requested to cancel the contract as they found it to be fraudulent, and after examining the details, he too had concluded the same.

Satya Pal Malik recently made allegations that he was offered money by RSS and BJP leader Ram Madhav to pass the medical insurance scheme for Jammu and Kashmir government employees. Ram Madhav has denied the allegations and called them baseless. He has also filed a defamation case against Satya Pal Malik.

Last year in September, the CBI had spoken to Satya Pal Malik to get more details about the allegations he made against the insurance companies as well as the case involving alleged corruption in the awarding of a contract for civil work at the Kiru hydroelectric power project.
