CBI arrests Tapas Pal in connection with Rose Valley chit fund scam

Kolkata, Dec 30 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested actor-turned-Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha MP Tapas Pal in connection with multi-crore Rose Valley financial scam, officials said.

According to reports, after being summoned by the CBI, Tapas Pal along with his wife and counsel visited the Central probe agency's office at CGO Complex in Kolkata's Salt Lake area and after hour-long interrogation, Pal was arrested in the late afternoon as his answers could not satisfy investigators.

"Tapas Pal was the director of Rose Valley's film and entertainment division and a huge amount of money was transferred several times to his bank accounts from the ponzi firm," a CBI official told IBNS.

However, the CBI sources said that Pal would be produced before a local court on Saturday and would be taken to Bhubaneswar on transit remand for further interrogation.

Earlier on Tuesday (Dec 27), the investigation agency summoned Tapas Pal and sent a third notice to another TMC Lok Sabha MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay in connection with the same case and they both were asked to visit CGO Complex today (Dec 30) for interrogation.

However, Sudip Bandyopadhyay avoided visiting CBI's office again.

Meanwhile, protesting the arrest, TMC Secretary General Partha Chatterjee told IBNS, "This is just a political vendetta of BJP-ruled Central government to stop Mamata Banerjee's movement against demonetisation."

"This politics of vengeance can never stop the fight of Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress against BJP and demonetisation," Chatterjee added.
