Patna: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the alleged mastermind of the Bihar NEET-UG case, Rakesh Ranjan alias Rocky, from Patna on Thursday.

Following his arrest, the CBI conducted searches at multiple locations in Patna and Kolkata, recovering several incriminating documents.

A local court has granted the CBI 10-day custody of Rocky for interrogation.

Sources revealed that Rocky, earlier, who ran a hotel in Ranchi, Jharkhand, was responsible for leaking the NEET-UG question paper.

He allegedly sent the leaked paper to an associate named Chintu, who further distributed and printed it with answers for students.

Rocky is also the nephew of Sanjeev Mukhia, another accused in the case.

Rocky arranged for solvers, many of whom were MBBS students from Patna and Ranchi, to take the exams on behalf of candidates after leaking the question papers.

His arrest follows the apprehension of two other individuals, including a candidate, from Patna.

So far, the CBI has arrested nine people in connection with the Bihar NEET-UG paper leak case.

The agency has also made arrests in related cases of exam manipulation and cheating in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand.

The CBI took over the investigation following widespread student protests over alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam.

The probe has led to the registration of six FIRs, including one in Bihar for the paper leak and others in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra for impersonation and cheating.

Rocky's arrest is the ninth in Bihar and adds to several arrests in other states connected to the NEET-UG scandal.
