Amritsar, Feb 21 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday met Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in Amritsar, media reports said.

Trudeau, who is on a week-long India visit, reached Amritsar along with his family and ministers this morning.

Trudeau is accompanied by Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan in the meeting.

Clouds were formed over the meeting after several Indian medias had earlier reported that Singh will not meet with Trudeau as a backlash of Canada's alleged involvement with the Sikh nationalist movement.

The Sikh nationalist movement is a movement which aims to make Punjab region of India, a separate country named Khalistan.

Singh flew from state capital Chandigarh to Amritsar to have an interaction with Trudeau.

Trudeau was welcomed in Amritsar by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The Canadian PM has also visited the Golden Temple of Amritsar.

Trudeau, who will stay in India till February 23, is yet to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
