Calcutta High Court may decide West Bengal panchayat poll date today

Kolkata, May 4 (IBNS): The Calcutta High Court may take a final call on West Bengal panchayat poll date on Friday, media reports said.

Though the State Election Commission (SEC) had earlier notified May 14 as the poll date, Justice Subrata Talukdar expressed dissatisfaction over the security arrangements to conduct the election.

So the HC had observed May 14 as a tentative date but not final.

Earlier, the SEC had asked other states to send security personnel to conduct the poll.

The opposition parties had alleged that the SEC did not consult them before notifying the poll date.

The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has already won 34 percent of seats uncontested.

The TMC has been alleged by the opposition parties to resort to violence to hinder the BJP, Congress and CPI-M candidates from filing nominations.
