CAA violence: ED report reveals direct link with Islamic body PFI; says Rs 120 cr transferred across 73 accounts for agitations
New Delhi/IBNS: A report by Enforcement Directorate (ED) has revealed a direct link between the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests in Uttar Pradesh and the Popular Front of India (PFI), identied as an alleged resurrected offshoot of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and Islamic fundamentalist organisation.
The investigating body corroborated the link between PFI and the violent protests on the basis of transfer in crores to areas which witnessed extreme violence.
In its report, ED said the money was transferred to places like Bijnor, Hapur, Bahraich, Shamli, Dasna in west Uttar Pradesh after Citizenship Amendment Act was passed in December last.
The total amount of money transferred to finance the anti-CAA agitation was Rs120 crore across 73 bank accounts.
According to the report, Rs 1.65 crore was transferred to the Kashmir wing of PFI.
The report has come days after PFI president Wasim Ahmed was accused of inciting violence was released on bail after UP Police failed to furnish evidence.
Ahmed had accused the government of maligning the organisation without evidence as 19 out of 25 PFI activists had been released on bail for lack of substantial evidence, media reports said.
The Yogi Adityanath government has sent a proposal to the Centre to ban PFI for its involvement in anti-national activities.
According to the Wikipedia description, the Popular Front of India (PFI) is an extremist and militant Islamic fundamentalist organisation in India formed as a successor to National Development Front (NDF) in 2006.
It acquired a multi-state dimension by merging with the National Development Front, Manitha Neethi Pasarai, Karnataka Forum for Dignity and other organisations. The PFI describe themselves as a neo-social movement committed to empower people to ensure justice, freedom and security.
The organisation has various wings to cater to different section of society, including the National Women's Front and the Campus Front of India.
