CAA agitation:Â Bengal Govt suspends internet services in six districts as precautionary measure
Kolkata/UNI/IBNS: The West Bengal Government on Sunday suspended internet services in six districts, including bordering Murshiadabad and Malda, after anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters resorted to vandalism for the past 48 hours.
The agitators torched five trains and 16 buses, vandalised ticket counters and damaged signalling system in four districts.
Reports of blocking of trains also poured in this morning reported as the protesters also took out processions across the state opposing the amendment.
According to Nabanna, the State Secretariat, the internet services have been suspended in North Dinajpur, Malda, Murshidabad, Howrah, Barasat and Basirhat divisions of North 24 Parganas, besides Baruipur and Canning of South 24 Parganas.
Barring Howrah, all the regions have porous border with Bangladesh.
Mob went on a rampage yesterday and the day before yesterday as the protesters launched unprecedented attack on attacks on the government property in which bogies of five stranded trains at Krishnapur station in Murshidabad were burnt down.
Railway station offices also came under attacks.
Nearly one and half dozen buses and vehicles were torched on Kona Expresway in Howrah where ticket counters of SER were also not spared.
Protesters at Mallickpur in South 24 Parganas also blocked train serves on Sunday.
Vehement agitation has been continuing this morning too as protestors put up road blockade in different parts of the state by setting tyres.
The agitators have blocked roads in North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah and other parts of the state, while the ruling district Trinamool Congress leaders along with the party workers have taken out rallies in protest against the CAB in several parts of the state since this morning.
The Congress also took out rallies in Durgapur and other parts of the state in protest against the Citizenship Act.
Meanwhile, Banerjee has also announced a series of protests against CAB.
A rally will be held on December 16 from the statue of Dr Ambedkar till Jorasanko Thaurbari via Gandhi statue on Mayo Road.The rally will begin at 1 PM and Banerjee will herself take part in it.
On December 17 another rally will be organised from Jadavpur 8B bus stand till the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on Mayo Road.
Banerjee warned of strict action against those indulging in vandalism across Bengal to protest amended Citizenship Act.
Banerjee called for protesting in a democratic manner.
“Do not take the law in your own hand. Do not block roads, railway tracks,” she said.
The chief minister said the State Government will not tolerate harassment of common people
“Government will prosecute those who will torch buses, throw stones at trains and vandalise public property,” Banerjee warned.
