New Delhi, Apr 13 (IBNS): With the results of the by-elections held for 10 assembly seats in eight states being declared on Thursday, the Bharatiya Janara Party (BJP) has undoubtedly emerged as a clear winner by bagging five seats alone.

While the saffron party won three seats already held, it managed to gain two more in this poll.

The BJP won the by-polls in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Assam

The party recorded a significant victory in Delhi's Rajouri Garden constituency by a huge margin

BJP candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa won by at least 14,000 votes, while AAP finished at a dismal third.

The blow to AAP comes a week before the crucial Delhi civic polls.

The BJP also retained the Bhoranj seat in Himachal Pradesh.

Narendra Modi's party also snatched Dholpur seat in Rajasthan from Mayawati's BSP.

In Madhya Pradesh, the ruling BJP retained the Bandhavgarh assembly seat.

The BJP also registered a win in Assam's Dhemaji, where saffron candidate Ranoj Pegu won by 9253 votes.

After the results were declared, PM Modi tweeted: "Impressive performance by @BJP4India and NDA in the by-polls in different parts of the country. Congratulations to Karyakartas."

He posted: "I thank the people for the constant support, blessings & unwavering faith in politics of development and good governance."

Meanwhile, in West Bengal by-polls, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) retained its seat in the Kanthi South of East Midnapore district in West Bengal bye-election.

TMC candidate Chandrima Bhattacharya bagged the seat.

In Karnataka, the Congress has won both Nanjangud and Gundlupet.

However, in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, fresh elections were ordered in 38 polling booths after violence erupted on Sunday and just 2 percent voters' turnout were recorded.
