Bullets were fired on my brother with the intention of killing him: Khan
Gorakhpur, June 11 (IBNS): Kafeel Khan, the doctor who was jailed last year in connection with child deaths in Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's home base Gorakhpur, has said that bullets were fired on his brother with the intention of killing him.
He said the operation of his brother was successful and bullets have been removed from his body.
"He is currently in ICU. Three bullets were shot at him in order to kill him. Who has fired, we do not know. But it was 500 metres from Gorakhnath Temple, where the UP Chief Minister was staying," the doctor was quoted as saying by the media.
His brother was shot at by unidentified bike-borne men near Gorakhpur's JP Hospital Gorakhdham overbridge, media reports said.
Thirty-four-year-old Kashif Jameel suffered three bullet injuries late on Sunday evening and was admitted to a local hospital.
Around 11 pm, assailants on a motorcycle allegedly fired at Kashif Jameel, a businessman, and fled.
The incident took place half-a-km from the residence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Kafeel Khan on Monday also posted a video message on Twitter and said he is not going to bend.
The doctor took to Twitter on Monday morning and said, "Allah rahem kare. M not going to bend."
Khan was the head of the encephalitis ward at BRD Medical College when over 60 children died allegedly due to oxygen shortage.
The paediatrician, one of the accused among nine doctors, was charged under several sections by the office of DG Medical Education.
However, Khan was later hailed as a ‘hero’ as he had saved lives of some children when the oxygen was disrupted.
