Building collapse in Mizoram kills four

| @indiablooms | Jul 02, 2019, at 11:14 pm

Guwahati, July 2 (IBNS): At least four people were killed and many others injured when three blocks of a building collapsed due to a massive landslide at Durtlang Leitan area, about 5km from Mizoram’s capital city Aizawl on Tuesday evening at around 5:45 pm.

Four bodies have been recovered from the site and it is suspected more people are trapped.

Emergency rescue operations are currently under way.

According to the reports, the landslide triggered by rainfall continued in Mizoram and other parts of the north eastern region in past couple of days.

Four other buildings near the collapse site are also in a bad state.

Top police and administration officials have rushed to the site following the incident.

Locals alleged that, there was no protective wall made between the building and the slopes of the hills.

Under the government’s Basic Services for Urban Poor Programme (BSUP), the buildings were constructed by the National Project Construction Corporation (NPCC) and Royal Infra Construction Ltd and the construction was begun in 2009.
