BSF seizes Yaba tablets worth Rs 1.70 crore in Assam's Cachar district

Guwahati: The troops of Border Security Force (BSF) recovered 17,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 1.70 crore and apprehended a person in Assam's Cachar district along Indo-Bangladesh border on Tuesday night, officials said on Wednesday.

Acting on specific intelligence regarding transportation of suspected Yaba tablets in a white colour vehicle along Katigorah - Kalain road on National Highway 06 towards Meghalaya side, a joint operation was planned by BSF Field Intelligence Unit Silchar along with Karimganj Customs Division and operation team of 1 Bn BSF.

"The joint operation party intercepted a suspected vehicle bearing registration number ML-05 P-8654 near Hilara Railway crossing on Katigorah - Kalain road (National Highway 06). On searching the four wheeler, suspected Yaba tablets concealed inside the left door (back side) was recovered and seized. Driver of vehicle was also apprehended. The location is about 16 km away from Border Out Post Harinagar," a senior official of BSF said.

The market value of seized 17,000 Yaba tablets as assessed by the Customs is at around Rs 1.70 crore.

The security personnel also seized one mobile phone.

The apprehended person and seized items have been taken over by Karimganj Customs Division for further legal action.
