Brown sugar worth over Rs 2 crore seized in Manipur

Guwahati/IBNS: Security forces have recovered huge quantities of brown sugar worth over Rs 2 crore and apprehended three persons in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.

Troops Assam Rifles in a swift joint operation with Manipur police foiled narcotic smuggling and the joint team intercepted three individuals and recovered 50 packets of brown sugar.

Acting on specific intelligence from reliable sources, the joint team of Assam Rifles and Bishnupur police commando launched a search operation and detained three persons from Kumbi bazaar area under Bishnupur district.

The traffickers were identified as Sasat Guite, Thangsei Guite both residents of Gamphajol in Churachandpur district and Warepam Ramesh Singh, a resident of Fubala Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district of Manipur.

The security personnel had recovered contraband drugs worth over Rs 2 crore.

The apprehended persons along with seized contraband were handed over to Bishnupur police station for further investigation.

On the other hand, troops of Kangwai Battalion Assam Rifles facilitated the apprehension of two drug peddlers and recovered 75 grams of heroin.

Acting on the credible intelligence provided by the Kangwai Battalion Assam Rifles, the Imphal East Commando police team detained two drug peddlers from Pureirormba Khongnangkhong area under Imphal East district of Manipur.

The assessed market value of the recovered contraband is worth Rs 30 lakh.

The detainees were identified as Wahengbam Jameson, Son of Bhutto and Thangjam Chanba, Son of Late Momorjit residents of Patsoi part-1 in Imphal West district of Manipur.
