Bombay HC grants bail to ex-home minister Anil Deshmukh's secretary in extortion case

Mumbai/UNI: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Sanjeev Palande, the private secretary of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in a 100-crore extortion case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Former Maharashtra minister Deshmukh, also an accused in the case, is currently out on bail.

The Supreme Court Tuesday rejected the CBI plea which has challenged the Bombay high court order granting bail to Deshmukh.

Justice M S Karnik while allowing Palande's bail plea imposed the same conditions on which Deshmukh was granted bail.

The high court had last month granted bail to Palande in a money laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate.

The ED arrested Palande in June 2021 in connection with the money laundering case.

Later, the CBI took his custody in the corruption case in April 2022.
