Blue Whale Challenge: Jodhpur girl jumps into lake, rescued

Jodhpur, Sept 5 (IBNS): In yet another incident of attempted suicide related to Blue Whale Challenge, a teen was rescued after she jumped off a cliff into a lake in Rajasthan's Jodhpur city around midnight on Monday, media reports said.

According to reports, a blue whale was carved into the arm of the rescued girl.

After she was rescued, the girl reportedly told the police that her mother would die if she did not complete the task.

The girl was reportedly handed over to her parents after she was rescued.

In the night, she had left home by telling her family members that she was going to the market, reports said.

Her parents started to panic when she was not returning after long time.

Meanwhile, a man, who was identified as Om Prakash, reportedly saw the girl park her scooter and weep close to the lake.

"She was crying...I realised she was going to jump into the lake. I ran behind her and tried to stop her. I started talking to her and asked her what's the matter, she said my mother will die," Prakash told NDTV.

"Why will your mother die, I asked. She said her game was nearing the end and if she did not complete her task her mother would die," Om Prakash told the news channel.

She jumped into the lake.

He was pulled out from the lake in time.

Several cases of suicide, committed by teens, have been reported from different parts of India in recent times. They have been allegedly linked to the Blue Whale Challenge.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad last month said tough measures have been taken against games like Blue Whale which has allegedly provoked young people in the country to commit suicide.

The game is completely 'unacceptable'.

The Blue Whale challenge is an online game, believed to have originated in Russia.

It is a self-harm game that encourages participants to harm themselves for 50 days before killing themselves in order to win the contest.

The game has so far killed 100 teens in Russia and the UK.
