Nandigram/East Medinipur/IBNS: Some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists were injured as the workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP reportedly clashed in Sonachura area of Nandigram in East Medinipur district of poll-bound West Bengal on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, the clash erupted between the activists of the two rival parties while Nandigram's BJP candidate, Suvendu Adhikari, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were holding a door-to-door election campaign.

Suvendu Adhikari was also shown black flags during the skirmish.

Later, local police along with Central forces rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

Reacting on the matter, Dharmendra Pradhan said, "Suvendu Adhikari's poll campaign was attacked in Sonachura in front of me. Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress should fight the election in a democratic way."

"I would appeal to the Election Commission to deploy Central forces here," he added.

Meanwhile, denying their involvement in the incident, local TMC leaders claimed that the clash had erupted between two factions of the BJP.
