BJP stages demonstration in Aurangabad against RaGa's 'Savarkar remark'

Aurangabad, Maharashtra/UNI: The Garkheda unit of BJP here on Sunday staged a demonstration, to protest against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remark 'My name is not Rahul Savarkar'.

The party activists, along with BJP unit head Mangalmurti Shastri, assembled at the Gajanan Maharaj Chowk in Garkheda and condemned Mr Gandhi's remark on freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Assembly Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis sought an unconditional apology from the former Congress President over the issue.

Substantiating his claim, Fadnavis said, "Rahul Gandhi must tender an unconditional apology over his remarks on Swatantraveer Savarkar. He did not have any idea about the sacrifice rendered by Savarkar and his family. He has not witnessed it.

"He does not know who is Savarkar. Savarkar is the only person in the history to be sentenced to Kala Pani twice by the British. The national icon lived for many years in a dark cell in Andaman," he added.
